Detroit: Become Human rockets to the Top Sellers on Epic Games Store
All thanks to being billed as one of the “Deals of the Week”
Epic Games have not long wrapped up their Christmas Giveaways in which from 11th December to 1st January they give daily free games for free to keep, with the first and last game lasting one week, totalling 2 week long free games and 15 free games that are available for 24 hours. This is a huge event for the store and is something that many gamers look forward to every year as with it being Christmas expectations for the games being given are higher than the usual week long freebies, alongside them only being available for 24 hours (except for the first and last game of the event which lasts 1 week). This year’s heavy hitters included Hogwarts Legacy from Avalanche Software, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night from ArtPlay and Disco Elysium: The Director’s Cut from ZA/UM to name a couple. Previous years have seen other heavy hitters like Death Stranding from Kojima Productions, Sifu from SloClap, Hell Let Loose from Team17 and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy from Eidos Montreal.
Detroit: Become Human by Quantic Dream was released in May 2018 for the PlayStation 4 as an exclusive, it wouldn’t be until December 2019 that PC gamers would get their hands on the title as it was released where it and two other Quantic Dream titles, Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, would be exclusive to the Epic Games Store for one year, and it wouldn’t be until June 2020 that it would release on Steam.

What do we know about the Top Sellers blade?
One title that was heavily requested and expected to be part of this years daily freebies was Detroit: Become Human, but the daily free games came and went and there was no sight of Detroid: Become Human. However, this week as part of Epic Games Store’s “Deals of the Week”, a weekly event where they invite developers to be part of a week long sale with two titles being selected to headline the sale securing them a spot on the home page just above the free game of the week which means more eyes on the game and more people checking out, Detroit: Become Human was selected as one of the headline games with an 80% discount applied to it and the other being the deluxe edition of a previous free game Hell Let Loose with a 67% discount, and what we’ve been seeing is that slowly Detroit: Become Human has been climbing the list of the Top Sellers on the storefront, beating out heavy hitters like Grand Theft Auto 5, Dead by Daylight and EA FC 2026.
While we don’t know what volume of units that are being sold, but we do know that microtransactions within games have an impact on these placements as well, having previously seen Hogwarts Legacy climb up to number three in the ranks of Top Seller’s when it was free for a week with the only purchasable item available was the Dark Arts DLC Pack which gave players a mount, a cosmetic set and access to the Dark Arts Battle Arena.
What can we learn from this?
For Detroit: Become Human to be up so high next to games that are not only extremely popular worldwide and with a massive audience, but games that can also be seen as microtransaction heavy alongside in the case of Grand Theft Auto 5 and Dead by Daylight both have previously been given away for free on the Epic Games Store before, does give an indication that it must be doing well in general and perhaps all of the chat of Detroit: Become Human possibly being free and then failing to materialise has resulted in many people opting to instead buy it, and is an interesting sight to see.
Currently the free games this week are Styx: Master of Shadows & Styx: Shard of Darkness – Deluxe Edition and will be available until the 22nd January, be sure to pick them up with Styx: Blades of Greed releasing 19th February 2026
